Online magazine Torontoist takes the Toronto Sun to task for publishing articles related to the Giambrone affair that relied heavily on dubious pictures (see above) and information provided by gossip blogger Zack Taylor:

“Over the past week, as the Adam Giambrone scandal came to a head and then popped, gossip blogger Zack Taylor has published two breathless—and obviously dubious—stories about the former mayoral candidate in an attempt to cash in. We’d call that attempt “futile,” but it hasn’t been: the Toronto Sun, an actual newspaper with people who have job titles like “reporter” and “editor,” has picked up both of Taylor’s stories, and republished the details in them, with apparently no research of their own of Taylor’s claims whatsoever.”

“The wider question is that in a world full of flawed individuals –or sinners as the church would say- who amongst us can throw the first stone? Well to be frank, any one of us who hasn’t cheated on their partner for starters. That faithfulness is hard is no excuse for infidelity to be greeted with shoulder shrugging. Do we have the right to judge? Sure. The fact that we have all done things we regret doesn’t mean that transgressions don’t have consequences.”

“I humbly apologize my fellow councillors for the negative attention I gave them,” he said. Then he apologized “to the community and to the young people who believed in me. Finally, I deeply apologize my partner Sarah.”

Then Giambrone abruptly left the podium without taking questions. Minutes later, an aide took the podium and told reporters that Giambrone’s campaign was over.”

“Adam Giambrone: Can’t run the TTC. Can’t run his personal life.

Not much of a campaign slogan, but apparently he still wants to be mayor.

Giambrone denies there was sex, but confessing only when the jig is up isn’t noble. Nor does it instill confidence that Giambrone is either ready or mature enough for the hot seat of the mayor’s chair.”
